Early Life and Education
Oli was born on February 22, 1952, in a village called Aathrai, Tehrathum. He was the oldest child of Mohan Prasad and Madhumaya Oli, and they were farmers from a Brahmin family. Oli's family comes from the Kumaoni Brahmin community. When he was just four years old, his mother passed away due to smallpox. After that, his grandmother named Rammaya took care of him. Oli finished his early schooling in Tehrathum and later moved to Jhapa in 1962. Oli practices Hinduism as his religion.

Early Political Career
Oli began his political career in 1966 when he started opposing the partyless Panchayat system in Nepal, which means there were no political parties at that time. In February 1970, he joined the Communist Party of Nepal. Oli was involved in activities against the government and got arrested for the first time in 1970. After 1 year later, he appointed a member of the party's district committee, which is a group of people responsible for overseeing party activities in a specific area. In 1972, he became the leader of the Jhapa Movement Organizing Committee. However, Oli's opposition to the Panchayat system led to his imprisonment for 14 years, from 1973 to 1987. He joined the Communist Party of Nepal's (Unified Marxist-Leninist) central committee after being freed from prison in 1987.

K.P. Oli started his political journey in the early 1970s by joining the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) [CPN (UML)]. He was not successful In the 2008 Constituent Assembly, he was not successful to get seat but in 2013 he managed to win. Since the new constitution was introduced, he has participated in two elections from the Jhapa-5 constituency, one in 2017 and another in 2022, and he won both by receiving the majority of votes.
